Vote Andrew Barnett in Tain and Easter Ross for a greener, fairer Highland Council

The Highlands and Islands Greens have confirmed Andrew Barnett as their candidate for the Tain and Easter Ross by-election.

Born in Oban and brought up in the Highlands, Andrew has both personal and business links with the area. He has worked extensively with schools, residents, and community councils on projects for the good of the area and of the planet.

Andrew has been a business owner of a vegan cafe, a hospitality manager and worked in education and brings a wide range of experiences to help improve the lives of people within the Tain and Easter Ross region.

Andrew said,

“Despite the terribly sad circumstances which have lead to this vacancy, I felt it was necessary for the Scottish Greens to have a voice in the race.

I am a passionate supporter of our stances on Independence, equality and social justice, all matters that I have spent my teen and adult life advocating and fighting for.

For the last 18 months I have been working as a trainer within secondary schools throughout the highlands delivering foundation apprenticeships in Hospitality. The company that I was working for is based in Tain. As such I believe I have become a familiar face to many local residents within this council ward, and have taught many of the teenagers at Tain Royal Academy.

I feel that the fate of these young people should not be left to those preaching politics as usual. As such, I bring the relationships, the experience and the empathy to help try and foster a better place for everyone.”

The by-election for Ward 7, Tain and Easter Ross, following the death of the late Councillor Alasdair Rhind, is a three member ward.  The other ward members are Councillors Maureen Ross (Independent) and Derek Louden (Scottish National Party).

Voting will take place on Thursday 13 June 2024 with the count taking place the following day on Friday 14 June 2024.
