ARUN SHARMA
Inverness South, Highland Council
Arun, who has lived in Inverness South since 1998, said, "I would like to add my voice to the many people who feel that we should be creating a greener and fairer society.”
“I'm willing to work hard on the issues important to the local community. I've worked as a GP and hospital doctor in Inverness and the Highlands for 25 years. All my children were born here and live locally. Now that they have grown up, I'd like to put my energy into contributing to this wonderful area we are lucky enough to call home. I love living in the Highlands and feel very privileged to be able to go walking, cycling & splashing about in the wonderful scenery.”
“In the recent past I've helped in a small way with Spokes 4 Folks, the Community Car Scheme and Clachworks. I've also been active in supporting displaced people, locally on the Homes for Ukraine scheme”.
Arun is endorsed by Highland and Islands Scottish Green MSP, Ariane Burgess. Ariane is working to address the housing shortage, support Green skills and jobs and remove barriers to climate action.
Another supporter is SGP Westminster Candidate for Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire, Peter Newman who said, “I’m excited to endorse Arun as our Green Candidate for Inverness South. Our shared vision of warm, affordable housing and tackling the climate, nature and Westminster-generated cost of living crises will transform life for people in the Highlands."
Arun’s Policy Priorities:
Keep young people in the area
Support local businesses
Warm homes: I’ll focus on using some of the £1.9bn for energy efficiency won by Greens in Government to tackle fuel poverty in Highland by insulating homes.
Safer active travel: the 20mph rollout is now happening due to the ‘Greens in Government' deal. I want spending prioritised for active travellers.
